The 49th running of the Irish Oaks was held on Thursday 22nd July 1943 over 1 1/2 miles of The Curragh, starting at the Howth Post. A pot of 2000 sovereigns was availble, 300 sovereigns to the second and 200 sovereigns to the third. The winner was owned by Mr J McVey who bought the horse the day before the race, trained by H Ussher, and ridden by Joe Canty. The winner won by a neck, with 5 lengths between second and third. |
